Guardianship

If your family member has become unable to manage their own affairs due to illness or injury, and a Power of Attorney has not been put in place, you and/or another family member typically may apply to Court for appointment as Welfare and/or Financial  Guardian.

Appointment as Guardian  may give that person(s) access to take care of the Adult’s finances and make decisions about their living arrangements and health treatment.

The application to Court requires reports from a Mental Health Officer from Social Work and two doctors confirming that the Adult has lost capacity to manage their affairs.
